Civil type and Cyrillic Kis
Vladimir Yefimov
In 2002 a collection of articles on scripts and alphabets from various countries around the world was published in the book ‘Language Culture Type,’ compiled by John Berry. This book, following the international typography competition of the ATypI (Association Typographique Internationale), included an essay by Vladimir Yefimov on the history behind the Civil Type and the design process of a modern Cyrillic typeface, Kis, based on historical forms. This version of the essay («Гражданский шрифт и кириллический Киш») features a series of new illustrations and previously unpublished drafts from the master’s archive.
